As a Microsoft Office instructor for the past fifteen years, I have used and taught numerous and powerful that Excel has to offer. Enjoying the application and exchange of these important features from the first time you use Excel 1989. I remember the first time you use Excel 5 in the 90s. Many of the big stands were seen for the first time, such as auto-filter selection, large format and very useful PivotTable. As a database programmer for over twenty years, the simple but powerful database features of Excel is greatly appreciated.

This latest version of Excel has some key improvements in many of the features database, which will help users greatly. For example, the first thing many of us with the list data in Excel is a species. Before Excel 2007, can qualify for up to three levels (columns). Now you can list up to 64 levels and you can sort by cell color or font too! A simple trick I have always used and is often a surprise even to some of my advanced students of Excel is the concept of a region in Excel. Excel recognizes that a group of cells that contain data points. For example, a region wOuld end of the first completely empty row and a column in a list or group of cells. What this means for us is that instead of selecting a column list or to order, simply select a cell in the column you wish to order and Excel will automatically include the entire list (region) in its genre.

In addition to sorting, filtering is a good tool to use to view your data. The auto-filter, one of my favorite has been improved, allowing the color filter and dates. A useful supplement is the ability to see up to 1,000 entries in an event-filter-down menu and select the desired power. Note that the definition of region Excel works here too. Simply select a cell to establish an auto-filter.

Another major improvement is literally that Excel 2007 now offers 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns. Along with most spreadsheet that allows more memory management registers has doubled from 1GB to 2GB. This makes it possible to work with large databases. Finally, an especially nice feature added in Excel 2007 is the feature table. With this feature, you can select a list of databases in a table.(Remember, select a single cell from the list to invoke it). The table automatically sets the classification and filtering functionality and some nice formatting options, including shadowing all other (or third or fourth, etc.) the row in a multitude of colors. You can delete rows and columns in table without affecting the rest of the spreadsheet and you can easily add totals to columns that contain numeric values. A powerful shortcut to the tape tab displays when you select a cell in the table, allowing you to customize to your liking.
